J.R. is part of the MCR-2 grounds and maintenance crew. Before he worked for the school district, he was an active supporter of the Wildcats.
His nomination says:
J.R. is a wildcat through and through. He fills our hallways with his kind smile and jolly chuckle. He is helpful, kind and willing to do whatever needs to be done. It is a joy to watch him eat lunch with our students. He can be seen all over the district on and off the clock encouraging kids and cheering for the Wildcats. J.R. has been a great addition to our MCR2 staff!
Congratulations, J.R., we truly appreciate your dedication to our district!
The Montgomery County R-II School District would like to announce the December winner of the Wildcat Award. The Wildcat Award is given to a staff member who exemplifies our mission of creating lifelong learners and productive citizens. We are excited to present this award to Miss Katelyn Matthews.
Miss Katelyn is currently a special education paraprofessional at Jonesburg Elementary. Previously she was the preschool paraprofessional at JBE and MCE.
Her nomination says:
Katelyn is a paraprofessional at our school this year. I have enjoyed watching her build relationships with the students she works with each day. I get the privilege to see Katelyn interact with students in my room and watch her interact with my own child with special needs. My daughter absolutely loves Katelyn. That makes a mama heart so happy! We are blessed to have Katelyn at JBE!
Katelyn is at JBE full time this year as a para. She has done so well with the students she is with one on one with by meeting them where they are at but still having high expectations. She is eager to learn and step in where she is needed. As a classroom teacher, she is willing to talk with me about strategies and ideas for the betterment of ALL kiddos in my class, not just the ones she is in there to support.
Congratulations, Katelyn, we truly appreciate your dedication to our students!
The Montgomery County R-II School District would like to announce the November winner of the Wildcat Award. The Wildcat Award is given to a staff member who exemplifies our mission of creating lifelong learners and productive citizens. We are excited to present this award to Mrs. Brigitte Hoffmann.
Mrs. Brigitte is the secretary at Montgomery County Middle School. She keeps things running smoothly and is always willing to do whatever is needed.
Her nomination says:
We are so lucky to have Mrs. Brigitte at MCMS. She is the glue that holds us together most days. What I love most about Mrs. Brigitte is her can-do attitude. She joined us last school year and from day one, she has been willing to dive in and help wherever she can, whenever she can. If she doesn't know the answer, she will always work to find it. I also love the positivity Mrs. Brigitte brings to the office. She is always kind and patient, putting the needs of others first and doing it with a smile on her face. Thank you, Mrs. Brigitte for going above and beyond and modeling for our students and staff what it means to be a Wildcat through your positivity and excellent work ethic!
Congratulations, Brigitte, we truly appreciate your dedication to our students!
The Montgomery County R-II School District would like to announce the November winner of the Wildcat Award. The Wildcat Award is given to a staff member who exemplifies our mission of creating lifelong learners and productive citizens. We are excited to present this award to Coach Justin Graves.
Coach Graves teaches physical education at Montgomery City Elementary and Montgomery County Middle School. He also coaches middle school boys basketball.
His nomination says:
Coach Graves deserves the Wildcat award for many reasons. He is a true Wildcat who serves our students daily as a great physical education teacher. He does a great job of teaching all students the fundamentals of exercise and sports. More importantly, he creates an environment that allows all of his students to feel safe and supported when they participate in physical education.
His calm demeanor and fair approach make him an awesome middle school basketball coach. Kids who play for Coach Graves know that he cares about them as individuals and that he values all of his players and wants them to grow as both athletes and people. Coach Graves has a strong moral character and he models daily for his students and players how to exude sportsmanship, respect, and kindness to others. We are so grateful our children get to have Coach Graves as a role model and educator!
Congratulations, Justin, we truly appreciate your dedication to our students!
The Montgomery County R-II School District will be in session on Monday, December 18, 2023.
The Montgomery County R-II School District would like to announce the October winner of the Wildcat Award. The Wildcat Award is given to a staff member who exemplifies our mission of creating lifelong learners and productive citizens. We are excited to present this award to Mrs. Jessica Fredrick.
Mrs. Fredrick is the nurse at Montgomery County High School. Jess does an excellent job taking care of the MCHS students and staff! She is always willing to advocate for students and help out when needed.
Her nominations say:
Jess is one of the hardest workers. She has kids in and out of her office daily. She often misses lunch as she is tending to the needs of students. I recently had a little critter problem with one of my students and she helped so much. She doesn't make students ashamed or embarrassed, but helps them. I appreciate her and I know the students do as well.
Nurse Jess has taken care of me, and my kids, for many years. Many people may not know that our nurses not only take care of hundreds of kids, but also many, many staff members! Jess helps me out with so many things personally and in my classroom, she has a halo and a direct pass straight to heaven!
Nurse Jess will do whatever she can to help students, both within her responsibilities and beyond her office. Whenever called upon, if there’s a need she can fulfill, Nurse Jess is eager to say yes and pitch in. Beyond caring for our students, Nurse Jess is often creative in proposing solutions to problems that emerge in our school. Simply put, Nurse Jess is a valued member of Montgomery County High School.
Congratulations, Jess, we truly appreciate your dedication to our students!
We need substitute teachers, please contact Central Office if you are interested!
The Montgomery County R-II School District would like to announce the September winner of the Wildcat Award. The Wildcat Award is given to a staff member who exemplifies our mission of creating lifelong learners and productive citizens. We are excited to present this award to Mr. John Klekamp. Coach K teaches weightlifting at MCHS, and is the head football coach.
His nominations say,
“Coach K is a wonderful example of a teacher, coach and fellow co-worker that sets a good example and sets the bar. Coach K is easy to talk to. He gives up personal time to mentor and listen to his students and players. Coach K is easy to work with and will go above and beyond to accommodate and work with students. Coach participates in school activities and shows immense school pride. He thinks of others and sets a great example for students and staff to follow. I know from students that they really count on his guidance and support.”
“I work on the "chain gang" on the sidelines of varsity football games (at another school in the EMO conference). In all my years of being a parent, attending athletic competitions, and doing the chain gang I have never been more impressed by a visiting sideline than I was with your Wildcats. In fact, I couldn't help but go up to Coach Klekamp, who I do not know personally, after the game and tell him how impressed I was by the culture, attitude, and demeanor of his team. They played hard and were competitive, and yet they also displayed great attitudes, character, and sportsmanship. Honestly, I am not sure I could have been more impressed. Clearly, Coach Klekamp and his staff are doing more than coaching football. They are teaching those boys how to be men, how to work together, how to have the right perspective, and how to treat others, even when others don't reciprocate as they should. I'm sure you are much more aware of this than I am, but I wanted to encourage you by sharing - these things do not go unnoticed. Our entire chain gang crew felt the same way, and I saw at least one other guy from our crew go up and shake Coach Klekamp's hand after the game and say something similar to what I said. Please realize, this is not common. Sure, I've been impressed from time to time with some teams and what they do, but never nearly this impressed. Sadly, I am more often disappointed in the attitudes of many players (and some coaches), but there was not a single negative thing I could notice from that game (not in how the coaches and players handled the officials, how they played together, how they treated the opposing players - even when things got a little chippy, how the players responded to the coaches, how the coaches coached the players, etc.). You have a great man of character in Coach Klekamp, a man I would be honored for any of my kids to play for. Clearly, he's preparing those boys for life beyond football, and one day, that will have an impact far beyond high school.”
Congratulations, John, we truly appreciate your dedication to our students!
Parents, this is a reminder that the MCR-II will not be in session on 10/27/23. However, Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held from 8 AM to noon on 10/27/23. This is a correction from the first message that was previously sent. Sorry for the confusion.
The Montgomery County R-II School District would like to announce the September winner of the Wildcat Award. The Wildcat Award is given to a staff member who exemplifies our mission of creating lifelong learners and productive citizens. We are excited to present this award to Mrs. Kylee Waite.
Mrs. Waite is the district’s school-based social worker. She works with students and staff members in all of our buildings, and spends a lot of her time with families and in the community.
As her nomination says, “She’s just amazing with kids!!!” Mrs. Waite wears many hats and is expected to be in many places each day. She makes it look so easy!
Mrs. Waite goes above and beyond for our entire community. Certainly her role starts with students, but she often offers resources, time, and effort to provide for families as a whole. Additionally, Mrs. Waite is well versed in the community connecting families to resources and providers as needs arise.
I appreciate so many things about Mrs. Waite, but the things that stand out about her beyond her fancy nails and eyelashes is her love for our kids, her passion for serving others and her feisty, never back down, there is no hill too big, personality that she springboards into every situation with to help life be just a little bit better for every kid she serves! Her knowledge, passion and ability to build trusting relationships is a blessing to all she knows.
I would also add that she is incredibly supportive of staff as well as students. She is wholeheartedly dedicated to all members of the Wildcat family. Her ability to connect to our families is second to none. MoCo is better because she is here.
Congratulations, Kylee, we truly appreciate your dedication to our students!
Montgomery County R-2 is fortunate to have many great staff members and many wonderful community members who support our kids. The district recognizes staff members, as well as our community supporters each month with Wildcat Awards. The community members receive the P.A.W.S. award, P.A.W.S. stands for Perpetually a Wildcat Supporter.
Mr. Alan Brake retired after teaching and coaching for many years here at R-II. Coach Brake has left a legacy of high expectations, hard work and respect. As a student you never had to wonder what he was thinking or where he was because his voice and laugh could be heard throughout the pod. Mr. Brake has been a Wildcat long enough to teach and coach former students' kids. There is no doubt that if you mention Coach Brake’s name to anyone who had the pleasure of having him as a teacher or coach for the three decades that he served as an educator in our district that they will for sure chuckle and have at least one story to share from their time in his health class, history class or on one of the teams he coached. Coach Alan Brake is truly one of a kind and the epitome of the term “Wildcat for Life”. Thank you is not enough to express our appreciation of his dedication to our students, staff and community. He is the keeper of our stats, responsible for many articles in the Montgomery Standard and the voice many associate with Friday Night Football. And, we would be remiss if we didn’t first say THANK YOU to Mrs. Jan Brake for sharing her husband with our district for many decades! Coach Brake, THANK YOU for your continued support of the Wildcats. You have made a lasting impression on many generations of Wildcats.
We continue to take nominations for the Wildcat and P.A.W.S. Award by completing the linked form, or you can email me (jschluss@mc-wildcats.org) your nominations. Congratulations Mr. Brake, and thank you for your continued dedication to our students, district and community!
