Today, we are celebrating individuals who truly embody our district’s 2024-2025 focus: “Educate, Encourage, Empower.” These remarkable staff members go beyond their roles, inspiring both students and colleagues every day. Empowerment starts with believing in our students’ potential. Our recipients create environments where every child feels valued and encouraged to take risks, nurturing their self-confidence and fostering independence. Today we recognize Julie Woods with a Wildcat Award. Julie seamlessly rotates our special needs students from our Special Education Classrooms to our General Education Classrooms. She provides the support each child needs to be successful without being a crutch. She knows when to push and when to support. Julie ensures that the needed accommodations and modifications are effective for both the needs of the student and the general education teacher. While supporting academics is a HUGE part of Julie's day, she also creates such a sweet sense of community and inclusion around the students she works with. Nudging our IEP students into group work with peers, reminding peers of safety concerns, providing support from a distance so students can experience independence with peers are things she does daily. Those are all super powers of Julie's. Her work does not stop there. She is often there as a support to the students around her that may not have set minutes. Bringing in extra clothing, replacing shoes, and packing extra snacks is something Julie does naturally. That extra help props those students up and increases the likelihood that they will also be successful that day (month or year!) I still recall all of the wolf themed items she purchased from local thrift stores to motivate a student that needed that extra attention and love. It WORKED! The child benefited, the general education teacher benefited and the class as a whole benefited. All because she saw a need and filled it. Without fanfare or sharing about it, she just did it. Those around her have watched her do that time and time again. Julie is a huge asset to this district and I have been blessed to see her work first hand, both as a teacher of a classroom she served in and as a parent. If our family is in a rush, we better plan ahead if we are taking our kiddo out into the community. If we run into his classmates we are getting high fives, hugs, and "dabs." THAT is because Julie has (and I use the word seamlessly again!) seamlessly woven our son into the social construct of our buildings. THAT isn't an IEP goal, but the value is worth its weight in GOLD. His success is because of so many hard working individuals in our district. It is also in huge part to Julie. Our district’s mission is to create lifelong learners and productive citizens. The Wildcat Award winners support our mission by building meaningful connections, creating a supportive learning environment, and through their commitment to professional growth. Their dedication fosters a love for learning and makes our schools welcoming spaces. Today we are honoring Mrs. Julie Woods with the Wildcat Award.

Empowerment starts with believing in our students’ potential. Our recipients create environments where every child feels valued and encouraged to take risks, nurturing their self-confidence and fostering independence. First, Julie Ellis is an exceptional teacher. Beyond that she has really helped students in her class prepare for college and beyond. She has shared scholarship opportunities with students. She writes recommendation letters, looks over college essays, and encourages students when they are unsure of themselves. Provides ACT prep for students above and beyond the normal school day. Mrs. Ellis provided an excellent example of public speaking to her students with her speech at the Academic Awards. When Mrs. Ellis is asked for assistance in any area, she usually says yes or finds a way to help. Mrs. Ellis has great insight to students' needs and has helpful information. In addition, Mrs. Ellis takes pride in our school by wanting to celebrate the staff. She has jumped in with retirement party plans, and social get togethers organizing meals and plans. Mrs. Ellis sets a good example for students and staff. She is truly a treasure and MCHS is lucky to have her. Mrs. Ellis is a Wildcat at heart and is passionate about advocating for all students, staff, the district, and community - and supports all things her students are involved in. Mrs. Ellis is a dedicated educator that strives to give her students the best experience possible and an education that prepares her students for their next steps. She is a leader in her department, the building, and district. Mrs. Ellis is also willing to learn more about ACT and Grow Your Own. She helps and instructs an ACT Prep class twice a year for our students on Mondays. Mrs. Ellis is willing to share her knowledge and practices with anyone as well as resources. Julie Ellis with the Wildcat Award.

Ms. Cobb engages with students in positive ways even though her role can be seen as negative. She has implemented a postcard "program" to send to students. She remembers things about students' interests and talks to them about their interests. Ms. Cobb looks for ways to involve students and staff to make our school a better community. She attends functions, sporting events, and community events to support our students and staff. She gives positive feedback to staff. She does little things like remember birthdays and tries to make everyone feel appreciated and part of a team. In addition to all of these things, Ms. Cobb is an alumni of MCHS and takes great pride in our school and community. Jessie embodies the values and principles of Montgomery County R-2. She does an amazing job motivating students by speaking to them openly and honestly about their choices and life goals. She tries to help every student be successful while also being the one who is normally in charge of the discipline. She knows every student in our school's name, and can probably give you facts about them. She constantly shows up for the kids and her staff. There are millions of examples of her making a positive impact, walk down the hall and ask any student or staff member. She has truly improved the culture of the High School.

Extra-Curricular Activity Expectations: MCR2 athletics and extracurricular activities are an important part of our school culture, and our students benefit from their peers, family and community members' support at these activities. The district asks that students and guests follow some basic guidelines to help make the activities a safe and fun experience for all spectators. 1. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited on our campus. 2. Pets are also prohibited on our campus, any animal on campus should follow BOE policy about service animals. 3. All spectators are expected to remain within the general area of the activity they are attending (football game-concessions area or in the stands, basketball game-concessions area or in the gym, etc). We also ask that students are not throwing balls, or other objects, during the activity. 4. We expect elementary students to attend with a parent, guardian or responsible adult. 5. Please park in designated parking spots only so that all other areas of the buildings are accessible as needed. For outdoor events, special permission is required to park inside the gates (between football stadium and baseball diamond).

We wanted to inform you about an important update regarding our drop-off and pick-up procedure, which will be implemented starting on 5/28/24 and continuing through the 2024-25 school year. To ensure student safety, MCE will be transitioning from a two-lane system to a one-lane system during drop-off and pick-up times. Attached to this message, you will find a visual representation outlining the details of the changes. This visual aid is intended to assist you in understanding the new procedures effectively. Here's a summary of the changes: The drop-off and pick-up lane will run down the middle of the parking lot. Cars will no longer line up on the striped lanes in the parking lot. During drop-off and pick-up times, these lanes will be blocked off. There will be 6 labeled parking spots arranged in a parallel fashion in front of the building, designated for drop-off and pick-up purposes. Please pull up into the first available space. The 6 vehicles in the loading zone will be unloaded/loaded and pull away before the next 8 pull into the loading zone. It would be helpful if students could exit the vehicle on the drivers side and directly on to the sidewalk/striped area. Staff members will be stationed throughout the loading zone to provide assistance. A staff member will be stationed at the entrance to the parking lot to assist drivers.

The Montgomery County R-II School District would like to announce the April winner of the Wildcat Award. The Wildcat Award is given to staff members who exemplify our mission of creating lifelong learners and productive citizens. We are excited to present this award to Mrs. Angie Oberhaus. Angie is a paraprofessional at Montgomery City Elementary. Her nomination says: Angie is not only a fellow staff member, but my daughter's para. She is constantly doing everything she can to make sure my child is safe and happy. Even when my kiddo is having awful days with her behavior Angie still loves and comforts her. It puts my momma heart at ease to know there are people like Mrs. Angie in this world who genuinely care about our students, not just mine. I cannot express how important she is to our district and classrooms. So, thank you Mrs. Angie for all you do, not only for my child, but all of the students. Paras are so important for our special needs kiddos to thrive. Congratulations, Angie, we truly appreciate your dedication to our students!

The Montgomery County R-II School District would like to announce the April winner of the Wildcat Award. The Wildcat Award is given to staff members who exemplify our mission of creating lifelong learners and productive citizens. We are excited to present this award to Mrs. Bernie Bader. Bernie is a math teacher at Montgomery County High School, she is also the FTA sponsor. Her nomination says: Mrs. Bader is always a positive person and willing to do what is needed for her students. She looks for and implements activities for her math students that are engaging and collaborative. Mrs. Bader is always looking for ways to better help her students as well as offering to help them during her personal time. She doubles as our after school traffic control coordinator (a responsibility that she takes seriously and enjoys)! Mrs. Bader is such a blessing in that role. I know that she will be there watching out for the safety of our students, buses, school, and community - always with a friendly smile. Lastly, Mrs. Bader is a fabulous mentor and friend for the math department. Congratulations, Bernie, we truly appreciate your dedication to our students!
